So, what can we do?

For my group insurance clients, you should consider offering AFLAC as an option for you Employees. They have different plans that can mitigate the exposure to hospital costs, accident and pregnancy costs. Additionally, you can set these voluntary plans up to be pre-taxed helping reduce the cost to your employees.

For my self-employed/individual/family insurance clients, we have an accident plan that marries beautifully with a conventional high deductible bronze plan. For my self-employed/individual/family insurance clients, we have an accident plan that marries beautifully with a conventional high deductible bronze plan. It is one thing to take on a $6000-7000 “share of cost” for cancer, heart attack or stroke. It is entirely different to have a trip and fall, break a bone and have that same $6-7k bill. With our accident plan, it will reimburse you for all medical expenses incurred in any accidental injury with a $250/injury copay. I have used this myself! When I ruptured my Achilles tendon, I didn’t suffer the corresponding “financial heart attack” knowing I was on an HD plan. I knew I had my accident plan, and sought treatment right away. The surgery, PT, and doctors visits only cost me $250. That is a powerful peace of mind.
